Really great take on 087, I remember other attempts at the SCP years ago, you have made a game that truly captures the dread of the stairs. Your use of noise was great, it really built the anxiety while you were descending.
I really enjoyed this game and it was spooky atmosphere, as a game dev did you looped the staircase with a counter variable or did you actually set up the whole stairs in order for the animations or was it using randomness ?

Thanks for playing! You guessed right :} the stairwell is only about 10 flights long, and the game will seamlessly teleport you to the middle of the stairwell once you go far enough down. A variable keeps track of how many "loops" you've done, and that's how the game events happen. The dense fog definitely makes teleporting the player around a lot less noticable. I actually have some screenshots of this on my Twitter if you wanna see more (@inkghst) and feel free to DM me if you have more questions or just wanna talk game dev.
I think almost everyone has gone down a flight of stairs, but never with a feeling of endlessness as you get in this game. As we go down, deeper and deeper into the abyss, a feeling of dread comes over me, as if my subconscious already knows what awaits me, at he end of this story. It was not to be disappointed.
Never thought that going a stairway could be this entertaining, but entertain it did. Well done. Kudos to all involved!
This might have been your first published horror project, but it was a good one! As such, it made it onto my list of 10 scary indie horror games from 2021. As far as I'm concerned this is the best game version of this SCP and you made walking down stairs a real treat, with some scary moments too.
FYI: The game warns you about this if you switch to full screen, but it happens even if you don't: the game runs faster than it's supposed to if you have a high hz or a g-sync monitor.
You need to use RTSS to limit the framerate. The exe of the game is located at:
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp\IXP000.TMP
but only when the game is running. The IXP folder doesn't exist if you don't launch the game.
On floor 56 (150m), blood can be found dripping from the ceiling. This blood can actually drip onto the camera with effects. Why this is necessary is unknown.
Reposting my comment from my rating: Although this is clearly an adaptation, I'm surprised how mostly faithful this game is to the original article. As well as your own interpretation of Exploration IV.
This was the most intense stair descent ever! I had a great time playing this as I was tense the whole time lol. I put the link to this game in a Discord server for creators that I'm in!

This is a really faithful interpretation of SCP-087. I only wish we could choose the other 4 exploration logs of 087. Other then that, great job.

I remember playing the original SCP-087 version back in the day. This was a nice little recreation that expanded upon things. Really enjoyable.
